  • I’ve Been to the Edge and Back!

     Hello from Jeanette JOY,

    This photo was taken by me in Melbourne, Australia from a place called The Edge. What’s interesting to me, I googled The Edge Melbourne Australia and came up with my forgotten old blog post about my visit. More on that post at the end of this.

    I want to share my journey from Depression to Joy.

    Some of my readers know my personal story and how I choose life instead of driving off Ortega Mountain. The still, small voice told me I could turn my life in a new direction, so I did. I turned my Mustang convertible to follow the road. I made new memories and had fun.

    Just when I thought I had everything figured out, I got slammed again. Has this ever happened to you? How many times have you reinvented yourself?

    2016 was a big year for me. It started out with another bout of extreme depression caused by grief. My low point, like the edge of a cliff, a knife edge, or the edge of night–a black hole–seemed to shroud me so I couldn’t do anything. I couldn’t pray or meditate. One day, I sang childhood hymns. My voice is so out of tune, I had to laugh. I asked God, “What do I do to stop these painful life lessons?” The answer came to me, like a father scolding a child. “Jeanette, get over yourself and go help people.”

    I reconnected with old friends and started going to events again. Helping others made me happy! More friends began calling me Joy. I faked Joy until I became JOY!

    I’m uniquely qualified to help others because of the tribulations I had. I’m helping friends and entrepreneurs with free publicity. All my hacked websites are being rebuilt for Joint Publicity and Content Marketing.

    Twitter was grief therapy for me. “Tweeting my life away” means I can promote with influence today. Tag your tweet with #JOYexpress and I will follow and retweet you.

    I hope you never endure the pain I felt. If you ever do, try singing, dancing, anything to get yourself laughing. Ask God for your direction to a happy life. And, it may even be time for you to get over yourself and go help others.

    So many new sites appear and then just fade away. I got tired of building accounts only to see them be a huge waste of time. I never expected Instagram to be more that another social media fad. What I didn’t expect was to find it FUN! This is my most liked photo. I like others better. I was happy to see over 100 Hearts. My grandson Alden Blake has over 10,000 Likes on many of his photos!   • Branding JOY!

    Everyone has been talking about branding for years. I branded several websites and entrepreneurial pursuits over the 16 years I’ve been playing/working online. My friend Chaz DeSimone helped me on and off. I created many designs myself because I understand design psychology. I was wrong. Design psychology for homes is different from branding graphic design. For the first time ever, I hired Chaz to rebrand me and gave him free creative license.

    Chaz took my favorite colors from a photo I gave him of clothes in my closet and exploded JOY.

    I can feel my definition of Joy every time I see my new logo.

    “Joy is Love in action.” Can you feel it?

  • Do YOU Blog?

    Long ago in the time before social media, people started talking about Blogs and Blogging. I hoped it was a fad and would naturally die. The only reason: I don’t like the sound of the word blog. Worse than some four-letter words, blog sounds like fingernails scraping chalkboard to me. I’d much rather be on a beach somewhere in warm water floating and watching clouds.

    For nearly a year, this blog has been broken. I didn’t miss writing posts here because I poured my heart on Facebook and Twitter. However, my new publishing company (partly me) expects authors to blog. I’d rather say write.

    So, let’s do this thing. Let’s blog. Let’s write. Let’s share content with the world. I’m going to write my best tips for social media, buying and selling real estate, sex psychology, and traveling. What are you blogging about? Do you like blogging?     I received word early this morning that my aunt passed away. Like the sky reflected in my pool, I will see my aunt’s reflection in her children and grandchildren. I will feel her caring love as I work my way through this busy weekend. It’s appropriate that she passed on Valentine’s Day because all she wanted was to be loved. I’m happy to celebrate her life every Valentine’s Day from now on. My aunt inspired me to have many children. I always loved spending time with my five cousins at her home. God bless and keep her happy. She is loved.

  • Why You Need to Question Authority

    Never let anyone tell you what you “should do!”

    One of my biggest mistakes was letting a doctor put me on antidepressants without doing research. Guess what I found out after my girlfriends and daughter celebrated one night with me? While having a great, hours-long dinner at my favorite restaurant, we had two glasses of wine and an after dinner fancy coffee drink. When we left, they were fine, but I was acting crazy drunk.

    Maria asked, “What are you on?” I said “Nothing…wait, you mean Wellbutrin (bupropion)?”
    We realized I had been acting strange for quite some time. Years.

    From the many bupropion side effects I found listed online, I experienced these: confusion, trouble concentrating, unusual thoughts and behaviors, distress, dizziness, tinnitus (ringing in my ears), sleep abnormalities and impaired sleep quality, decreased memory, forgetfulness (I had trouble remembering Maria’s last name!), shortness of breath, shaking or trembling hands, dropping objects, and spilling drinks. There are many more side effects, including seizures, which I didn’t have. I was afraid I had early onset Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s. Not being able to keep thoughts straight feels incapacitating.

    I feel sorry for my friends who only knew me while taking this medication. Within a few days of weaning the antidepressant, the ringing in my ears left one ear and decreased significantly in the other. After just a few days without Wellbutrin, I started writing again. Today, I’m working on two new books and loving life. I’m much happier than I was taking the medicine. I don’t drink nearly as often and when I do, I’m not out of control.

    How many people taking antidepressants are misdiagnosed with Alzheimer’s, dementia, or attention deficit disorders?

    Besides taking my doctor’s advice on medicines, I allowed my friends to counsel me and I paid a coach to teach me internet marketing–all wrong. I also witnessed many of my friends paying “coaches” who gave them bad advice.

    Take responsibility for your actions. Make your own decisions. Too many people let their friends and others claiming to be life coaches, who aren’t licensed counselors or trained professionals, tell them what to do. If you’re a life coach, please guide and encourage clients to their own inspired conclusions.

    Center yourself and seek Divine counsel.

    New Thought & Positive Psychology in Reverse

    We’ve all been told to stop dwelling on the past and on things that make us unhappy. You don’t need to be a New Thought or Oprah Unity follower to see the positive vibrations emanating outward from Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, and even the more business-directed Linkedin. I love this exciting, uplifting, spiritual energy!

    But, what do you do when sadness wells up and you feel like crying? I’ve been in the depths of darkness with my broken heart hurting so badly I had trouble breathing. I wanted my heart to burst so I would die. After all, it felt like a real heart attack. Why not let it kill me and put me out of misery? You may not have lost a child and a husband, but you most likely have lived through a broken heart.

    Besides tragedies, everyday hardships cause endless suffering. When we pull ourselves up by leaning on each other and concentrating on the goodness surrounding us, we feel happiness. You get what you concentrate on, so why not think about the flowers, birds, and loving friends? Perhaps you desire so many things that you concentrate on your personal material goals and wonder why you’re still not happy.

    Positive Psychology in Reverse

    Try this easy, quick (only three questions) exercise without cheating yourself and reading ahead. Get a piece of paper or open a new screen. If you take the extra seconds to write down each question by long hand, your brain helps you fill in the answers.

    Dwell for a moment on your discontent.

    1. What makes me feel discontented? Write down a few things that make you restless, unhappy. Don’t over-think. Just jot.

    Stop and Smell the Roses

    2. What do I desire to ease the discontent? Next, write down what you long for to replace your discontent.

    3. What are my decisions to take action to change? Base your decisions on what’s your highest sense of good for others, for you, for your life, for your business.

    Your decisions form your destiny! Some days, it pays to let your unhappiness help you change your life. Discontent shapes desire. Desire sparks decisions. Decisions structure destiny. It’s your life. Chose joy!

  • Joy to Detroit! Change Agents Bring Hope to Blight

    Don’t you love the way we learn about good news online? One story takes you to another great source and you just keep going deeper.

    First I read The Christian  Science Monitor’s Change Agent article:

    Motor City Blight Busters is fighting to bring Detroit back one abandoned building and one vacant lot at a time. The nonprofit demolishes abandoned buildings that are beyond repair, renovates homes, and cleans up parks and illegal dump sites….

    Motor City Blight Busters reminded me of people I call “Change Agents” in Detroit. I met  Myrtle and Wayne Curtis, founders of “Feedom Freedom” organization in Detroit, Michigan. I wondered how they were doing after all this time, so I looked them up on Facebook and found their organization thriving. I’m thrilled for them and for Detroit.

    Paradise Cadillac was exceptional to work with. I had visited other dealers who were just as nice, but they offered me half price of what Paradise Cadillac & Chevrolet gave me for my awesome Mustang GT convertible. I drove a few easy to drive BMWs. But, my mother didn’t like the high SUVs and I needed All Wheel Drive for our muddy hilly roads. The Cadillac XRS’s hip-high seat height makes it the easiest car to get in and out. Plus, my payments for the XRS are half as much as the BMW because it cost less and the interest rate is lower. My WWII Navy Veteran dad would be happy I bought a car imported from Detroit.

    The main thing about my Valentine Cadillac is it’s not only safe for my grandkids, it’s super fun to drive. The Cadillac may not be quite as fun shifting into 5th gear at 80 like the racy Mustang, but it has all the new techie features: heated seats and steering wheel, back up camera, and seats that buzz your bottom if you get out of line!

  • My First Visit to The Comedy Store

    I remember cruising Sunset Blvd as a teenager and seeing all the strange, hip, outrageous people standing around the cool clubs. People and scenes in front of Whiskey A Go Go and The Comedy Store drew me like a flower attracts a bee. I was sure the laughing pretty girls got to marry the rich cute boys and live happily ever after. Later, as a young married mother, I lived not far from The Sunset Strip and avoided the traffic and weirdos. I never expected it would take me forty years to come back to see my first comedy show.

    I didn’t know what to expect at The Comedy Store on West Sunset. The evening surprised, shocked, and sickened me–as well as entertained me. The first comic was really funny, except he made fun of himself as being a retard. Even though he may have cerebral palsy, he is not stupid and “retarded” offends me. But still, I can be offended without being shocked or grossed out, and laugh at funny redneck trailer-trash stories. All in all, he was funny.

    Several more comics entertained us with varying degrees of sexual stories and black jokes. Black male comics garnered many laughs about Black History Month and about dating white women. That was funny. Few people know I graduated from Bethune Cookman College and understand southern black culture.

    comic-brando-murphyBrando Murphy, Eddie Murphy’s son (Was it just me or did everyone else get the connection?) was fun and funny. Brando naturally has timing and charisma. He surprised me later by standing at the exit passing out cards to another show. I thought he was paid to stand there and hand out cards. I had no idea he was the comic star we saw earlier, let alone the son of a super star. He impresses me because he works so hard.

    More about my first visit to The Comedy Store (or any comedy club)
    The only woman comic embarrassed me. She was more foul mouthed and sexually explicit than the men. Sorry, I just didn’t appreciate that humor.

    The headliner played a satirical guitar medley and sang funny lyrics. I didn’t know I was going to blog about this night, so I didn’t take notes on names. If anyone knows names, I’ll add them.

    We went to see Maria Parkinson’s friend Eric DeLuca. He was likable, funny, and nice. You care about him and his funny family situation. It was unfortunate that he was cut short and Potty Mouth Woman took over repeating her harassing the pretty young women talk.

    Will I return to The Comedy Store? Perhaps. I plan to go see Brando and Eric again and I’d love to see some of the other comics too. Laughter is good for us. Watered down drinks and gross jokes make it hard to sit through waiting for the good stuff.

    A good belly laugh can make it all worthwhile. Please, make me laugh.

  • Four Reasons Why I Don’t Like MLM or “Network Marketing”

    4 Reasons I Turn Off MLM Pitches

    (No worries…I don’t try to bait and switch to sign you up!)

    Sugar-coat Multi Level Marketing (MLM) and label this sales system Network Marketing to create the aura of a new attitude towards MLM all you want, but upline and downline direct marketing ruins friendships, consumes lives, and oversells expensive products. Let me explain the four main reasons why I won’t listen to your “once in a lifetime opportunity” sales pitch.

    1. You lose friends.
    As soon as you say yes to your friend touting the new product, they become your upline and demand access to all your friends. Your friend becomes a sales maniac encouraging you to have parties where she keeps pushing, pushing your friends to spend money they don’t have on expensive products they never knew about and don’t want, especially in massive quantities automatically billed monthly. Furthermore, at the end of the month, you get massive amounts of phone calls, emails, and texts demanding you get just a few more sales so your former friend can meet sales bonuses.

    2. You lose your life.
    If you buy into the dream like I did (I once had a downline of 33,000 people.) you become obsessed. Every moment of your life becomes about how to get more people signed up. Every party, dinner, visit, phone call, and chance encounter becomes about Your Wonderful Opportunity. You find your life consumed by MLM–missing out on normal social functions, relaxation, family, friends, and fun.

    3. The products are overpriced.
    Even though the company says they save advertising dollars, your upline makes an inordinate amount of commission and bonuses. The last product I bought into had beautiful packaging. Once dropped, it broke open to disclose an inner, less than half-size inner bottle. Besides being deceitful, as an environmentally conscious person, the extra wasted plastic aggravated me.

    4. Autoship
    Be wary of autoship. I was told I would get billed at the end of the month. The date went from the 30th to the 26th to the 20th. Also, I suddenly started getting a third charge for $29 for which I still have no explanation.

    Do you think I’m being too harsh? I realize people need to make money today more than ever. What do you think?

  • Target, Target, Shame on You!

    Normally, I praise companies and forgive little irritations.

    After agonizing about my recent Target experience all night, I decided it was more loving to share with consumers the truth about the company who says “Expect more pay less with Target..”

    If you live in Sun City or Lake Elsinore, you pay less for umbrellas and other products than if you shop nearby in Murrieta.

    Target does not honor advertisements from their own stores even when they have signs posted in customer service that promise to honor sale prices for two weeks.

    I purchased four umbrellas at the Lake Elsinore Target to shade my patio for an upcoming wedding. I needed one more for the other side of the pool where there now sits an empty umbrella stand in front of the primary table for eight.

    My mother and I drove to Menifee’s new Super Target. After parking in the hot sun and walking through the immense parking lot into the store which is organized differently than regular Targets, I finally found the umbrellas. They had only striped ones in stock. Half an hour later, we then stopped at the Super Target in Murrieta at Clinton Keith and the 215. Since I hurt my hip and was in pain, I asked for help at the service counter. They had a young man bring the umbrella. I was so happy to see it was exactly the one I wanted. Imagine my surprise when he told me it was TWICE as much as I payed for the umbrellas I already purchased at Lake Elsinore Target!

    I asked them to honor the sale price or to send the umbrella to Lake Elsinore. NO!

    Guess what? The Smith & Hawkins Umbrellas online at Target cost EVEN more! Plus shipping! The website says this umbrella is not sold in stores. It is the same one I purchased but in brown, not beige.

    Solution? Searched 9′ Patio Umbrella w/Crank & Tilt. Found one at http://shade-usa.com for $49.95 plus $10.92 shipping. All under two minutes to search, find, buy. No driving, walking in the heat, walking endless aisles, waiting in lines, or feeling cheated.

    I love shopping online! Target’s problem: I have frequent huge parties, tweetups, meetups, live music, weddings, workshops and seminars at my home. When someone says, “Hey that umbrella doesn’t match…”
