High-quality oil paintings in office design benefits employers with increased productivity and worker satisfaction.

Add Original Oil Paintings to Your Office Design

By Jeanette Joy Fisher

Recent studies have shown that adding original paintings to office spaces improves employee performance and creativity--and American companies have responded by buying more high quality original art than ever before.

When asked why they've begun hanging original oil painting on the walls of their employee's offices, business owners and office managers offered a variety of reasons. The first was to show their employees that they cared
about them enough to provide a soothing yet stimulating work environment. The second was to increase productivity and worker satisfaction levels.

If the concept of buying original paintings sounds appealing, but you're
wary of the process, here are a few tips for choosing the artwork for your offices.

As always, the first concern is your budget. There are a number of variables to consider, not the least of which is your return on investment--because buying high quality original art is actually an investment, one that will appreciate over time. Although it can be difficult to calculate a painting's future value, it's still something to consider.

Space is another consideration. If a painting is too large for a space, it can dominate the room and become a distraction. To gain a more pleasing effect, it's common to buy one mid-sized painting and several smaller ones, from the same artist or depicting similar subject matter, and grouping them on an office wall.

You'll also want your paintings to coordinate with the existing décor of your office space. Since there's a great deal of original artwork available, your choices of colors and degree of vibrancy are almost endless. With some diligent searching, you're bound to find exactly the artwork to compliment your office space.

Another consideration is the style of paintings. You'll be decorating an entire office space, so you'll want to choose paintings that will convey a message to clients and employees alike about your company's vision and personality. One way to do that is by consulting with employees, who can provide valuable insights into what they'd like to see in their office environment. Once you've narrowed your choices down to a few pieces, take an office poll and see which paintings have the greatest appeal. Consider it another way to show your employees that you're buying original artwork because you care about providing a pleasant and stimulating place to work.

Finding high-quality paintings for offices has never been easier, and the benefits you'll receive from increased productivity and worker satisfaction will be well worth the effort. You might even find yourself in possession of a very valuable painting as time goes by!
